The American Asylum " Straitjacket "

When I thought of the idea to create a straitjacket out of the American flag, the concept was intended to propel my photography forward, it didn’t really occur to me that people would want to see the jacket in person or that the jacket would have its own artistic Identity outside of a photograph. Photographers create props all the time to give their images something unique. Nonetheless I’m excited to be welcomed into other areas of art and hope the jacket is well received.

A New Photo Project

The American Asylum is a new photo project I’m working on. It’s a straitjacket made out of the American flag. It’s still in the early stages. Right now I’m just doing test shoots and figuring out my ideas.
I had a straight jacket made out of the American flag to represent my feelings on gay marriage in California. But the jacket fit so many different scenarios for so many different Americans I knew I had to keep building ideas around it. This is from a test shoot I did when I got it. Jacket made by Christian Lastra.
