"Folklore" Exhibition and Reception

Last month when I participated in the DTLA art walk this older black woman came into the gallery, said some nice things to me, took a card and then she emailed me yesterday repeating a lil of what she had said in the gallery. She said our gallery was the last she went into, mostly because we were at the end of the strip, but beforehand she had went into a few other galleries where she saw photos of black homeless people, black gangbangers and black drug addicts. She said she didn’t know if the photos were real or staged. She said our gallery; my art show was the only space she had seen that black was being portrayed as beautiful. She was very appreciative.

I would like to file this as an example of sometimes art has to be pretty. In a contemporary art world sometimes beauty is the underdog.
